Hello HMS. The week of May 8th is state testing for all 3 grades. Please try to rearrange any scheduled doctors’ appointments, so that your child can be here to test. Additionally, please try to ensure that your student arrives at school on time. We will begin testing by 8:15 am each morning, and the test is untimed. Get a good night's sleep and eat a good breakfast. Good luck to all!

Tomorrow Hurricane Middle School will be conducting a Lockdown drill as part of the Standard Response protocol that the district adopted last year for our Crisis Response Plans. This is a scheduled drill in partnership with the office of West Virginia Emergency Management as well as Hurricane Police Department. During Lockdown drills no one is permitted to come inside or go outside of the building. Please contact your school administrator if you do not want your child to participate in the drill. Again, this is just a drill. Thank you for your understanding and support in keeping our students safe.

Hurricane Middle School and Putnam County Schools are committed to the education and safety of all our students and school staff. Essential to this commitment is open communication with our families and community about potential issues or misunderstandings when they arise. At approximately 8:00 am this morning, an incident occurred involving a physical altercation between two students on the seventh-grade floor. The altercation was reported, deescalated, and appropriate disciplinary action was then taken. It has since been brought to the administration's attention that rumors have been circulating regarding the reported incident. It is essential to share that no threat was made toward Hurricane Middle, nor were any weapons found on campus. We want to thank our school community for helping HMS put a stop to unsubstantiated rumors. Again, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority, along with open and transparent communication. We appreciate the Hurricane Middle School leaders and law enforcement agencies who continue to help us keep our school safe.

Dear Families: Your student will be bringing home state assessment results today if he/she took the WV General Summative Assessment: grades 3-8, the WV Alternate Student Assessment: grades 3-8, or the SAT School Day exam for grade 11 last spring. In addition, you and your student will also be receiving an email with a link to a video score report for WVGSA or WV SAT only. The video link is being sent to the student email account and the parent email on file with your student. Please have your student check the student email account to find the link. Simply copy the link into your web browser and use your student’s birthdate to open the video score report. If you enter the birthdate incorrectly three times, the account will be locked. If you do not receive printed score reports OR if you have difficulty opening the video report, please contact the school for assistance. You may also call the school if you need assistance in interpreting your student's score report. Thank you and have a great day!

Hello, If you need to pick your child up early from school, please do so by 3:05. It is extremely difficult to gather students from class after that time for early release.

Hello, Please make sure your student is following the county dress code. The dress code can be found in your child's planner. Those who cannot follow the dress code will be calling home for a change of clothes. While current fashion is nice it does not always meet the dress code for school. Thank you for your help.
