November's Newsletter Clipart

From The Principal,
Traditionally, for many of us, Thanksgiving is a time of reflection. During the month of November, many participate in 30 Days of Thankfulness, giving credit each day to someone or something they are thankful for.  I have many reasons in which to be thankful, but the children who walk the hallways of Scott Teays are one of my greatest blessings and I thank you for sharing them with us each week. I am also thankful for supportive parents such as yourselves.  Thank you for all you do to support your children’s academic success and our school.  I hope you know how much we appreciate you making copies, assisting in the book fair and Santa Shop, popping popcorn, decorating, organizing classroom parties and events, and the list goes on and on.  With just seven school days until Thanksgiving Break, I would like to take this opportunity to wish each of you a wonderful Thanksgiving and say thanks for all you do to support your student and Scott Teays!

Happiest of Thanksgiving wishes to you,

~Mrs. Isaacs

Veterans Day Program
Please be reminded that our fourth and fifth grade students will present a Veterans Day Program under the direction of our music teacher, Caleb Parsons, on Thursday, November 9.  In order to comfortably accommodate our guests, the program will take place at 1:00 at Good Shepherd Church located directly behind Scott Teays Elementary and you are invited to join us.   We would love to honor any and all Veterans associated with Scott Teays or our surrounding community.  Have a special veteran in your life?  Please invite them to be our guest on November 9th!

Thanksgiving Luncheon
We look forward to having parents and guardians of our fourth and fifth grade students who returned a reservation form join us for our Thanksgiving Luncheon on Wednesday, November 15.  Due to space constraints, only guests of our fourth fifth graders are invited to attend at Thanksgiving.  Siblings from other grade levels will eat with their assigned classroom. The cost for adults is $3.60.  Our lunch schedule will be as follows:
4th and K    10:30 a.m.  (Begin arriving at 10:10 to pay for your lunch)
5th and 1st   11:20 a.m.  (Begin arriving at 11:00 to pay for your lunch)
2nd and 3rd   11:55 a.m.

Preparing For Inclement Weather
Inclement weather is just around the corner.  In the event of a school delay, school closing, or early departure, the calling system will be activated to share important information.  PLEASE do not call the school to ask about school closings or early dismissals.  Our lines need to be kept open for emergencies.  You will receive a personal call through our calling system if we have ANY change of plans.  We will follow the early dismissal plan on file with your child’s teacher.  If you are not receiving our calls, please call the office to verify the phone number on file.   Adding PCS (304)-586-0500 to your contact list helps avoid missing calls.

Morning Drop Off
For families choosing to provide transportation to school in the mornings, please be reminded that exiting Tiger Lane onto Teays Valley Road at the Dairy Queen is posted as a right turn ONLY during morning drop off hours. Turning right is essential to keep traffic moving.

Unclaimed Clothing
Our lost and found is overflowing and we would love to return the unclaimed items to owners.  PLEASE consider adding your child’s name to the tag inside their sweatshirts, jackets, and coats.

Tips to Help Your Child Get More Sleep
With elementary schools starting so early, it is very important that students get to bed early and get the recommended number of hours sleep each night.  Consider the following suggestions:
• Turn off all screens at least 1-2 hours before bed.
• Get to bed and wake up at the same time each day.
• Spend time outdoors. Natural sunlight during the day helps you to sleep better at night.
• Set up a relaxing bedtime routine and be consistent; shower, brush teeth, read a book or two,  listen to calming music, do breathing exercises.

Tardies/Absences
Instruction promptly begins at 7:25 a.m. each day.  It is very important that your child arrive at school on time. Doing so helps ensure that he or she has plenty of time to unpack and prepare for the day ahead.  Coming in late not only disrupts your child’s instruction, but it interrupts the education of other students in the classroom.  It is also important to note that according to county policy, picking your child up prior to the end of the school day is also recorded as a tardy.  If you need to pick your child up early for a doctor’s appointment, please be sure to send an excuse from the doctor the next day so the tardy will be marked excused.  Also, don’t forget that a note, either parent or doctor, is required the day your child returns to school after being absent.  When we do not receive a written parent note or a doctor note upon return to school, the absence is recorded as unexcused.  Faithful attendance is essential to the learning process.
